Did you know Substack saves all of your likes, and makes them public? Hahaha. It’s tricky to even enjoy dark humor behind the anonymity of a screen.
Anyway, I’ve been on here for 6 months, farting out the comings-and-goings of my day. It usually starts with me listing through what I did, but I get snagged on a dull event for some reason. Sometimes I start my entry writing with an event in mind, only to get sidetracked, ranting about the most efficient way to sweep a floor, or why some crotch BO smells good.
This exercise started as a way to get daily writing practice, and has ballooned into 208 entries. Substack is my biggest time suck now on my phone, and while it is a healthier alternative than other apps, I do find there’s an underlying anger and self-esteem deflating environment on here that creeps into my psyche. But, overall, I’m grateful for the platform of writers, as it feels like I found my lunch table I feel comfortable opening up to.
Here are my lists for the year of Substackers. I split it into articles and note posters, both of which get me excited when I see them in my timeline. Surprise at end.
Articles and Authors
- This girl introduced me to the word “reticent." She’s got a demeanor that you would love to have a cigarette with at a party, but can’t tell if they were just using you for your lighter. I hope she finds happiness - Dude writes so beautifully, and he’s as tall as a skyscraper? Fuckin a. Wrote a great fiction piece here about a meet-cute to marriage to divorce from a woman’s perspective. Bold of him to take the swing, and I think he nails it - This is the guy who introduced me to this app. Mark has a great podcast called “other men need help,” which analyzes masculinity without trying to eradicate it. This article made me shed tears while reading it at my desk, a sad one about cementing your legacy at the cost of your relationships - great young writer who could be Gen Z’s cornerman (cornerwoman) to override the social-media induced social anxiety - This girl is two-sided coin for me. On one end her notes are so sweet and encouraging, on the other end her articles dredge up the dark side of womanhood. Phenomenal fiction writer, delving into her character minds with such detail you wonder if she’s lived a thousand timelines. With such an active brain that can discreetly overthink anything, I pray for her future boyfriends - Idk what this guy’s dayjob is. A geographer? But he shows how environment has shaped society in such a succinct way that I’m gonna start up discussions at dinner parties. A good balance to the auto-erotic fiction on here - A ol’ foreman raconteur who shares his stories from residential construction in the expensive Bay Area market. Spins such great yarn that it makes me want to quit my desk job to pour concrete. Build up some thick fingers. - Tbh, like, the mother of this App. And she’s got a Baby on the Way! Girl is living life now and really loves her husband, which is nice to see some male praise on this app. Too much war of the sexes between “woah is me” incels and young women who rage-write about their situationships. Dia put out a great 3-parter about leaving Philly that I loved (blue-gatorade my fav), but she can wax about running - We share a surname. Her writing is soft. The type of woo woo Silverlake I initially roll my eyes at, but then a line of hers hits home and I wonder why I’m so scared of softness (ft clad) - I love this guy. First person to restack anything that I wrote. In his young life, FD has weathered some hairy situations, but the writing is such honest prose with an optimistic ending that it’s hard not to romanticize the melancholy of it. Tough to pick a fav post, but his latest one encapsulates the grittiness of his storytellingNotes and Posters
These people make the app addictive. They bring in everything I love about twitter, the dumb wit and say-anything attitude. Here are my fav note posters
If Dia Lupo is Substack mother,
is the hormonal daughter slamming the bedroom door. This depressed Floridian grocery store cashier has a cutting tongue and will go on to Big things if she doesn’t develop popcorn lung. Really enjoyable, never apologizing (even when dropping n-bombs), and its her brash confidence that reminds me that you can share those twisted thoughts rambling on in the back of your mindHats off to the meme aggregators who sacrifice their screen time to sift through the darkest parts of the web to fuel our dopamine nation. They are the present day coal miners
- Meme Acct #1 - Meme Acct #2This pigeon PFP (thought it was a fish) has the best replies in the biz. He makes me chuckle when he high jacks a note with his humor
Best Boobs:
Maybe 1 in 20 posts on my TL are from a buxomy bot account. And I can’t complain about instagram-bait clogging my feed, because my pause time on these posts feed my algorithm. But I came to substack to escape this shallowness and delve into ideas.
So when a thirst trap posted by
in a white shirt post exams made me verbally say “wow” from my work chair, I realized substack could be a mash of similes and smoke shows. She’s a got a strong voice and way with words and all of that. But goddam, her bod makes me want to learn how to whistle so I could catcall her from a construction site.Oh, nvm, she’s 20. Not posting that pic. But go click and scroll through her profile
I AM SO HONORED TO BE MOTHER ❤️❤️
thank you for making my day :D
